Outdoor Training Sessions
Beginning in 2009, the Ozark Trails Council will be holding two sessions of each of the below outdoor training opportunities per year. The training will be held on a rotating basis between Camp Arrowhead and Camp Childress. If you are interested in helping with one or more of these events, please contact the your District Training Chair or the Springfield Service Center.
Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a Cub Scout Leader training. It is a one-day training event that introduces parents and leaders to the skills needed to plan and conduct Pack outdoor activities including camping. This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a Pack campout, and it is recommended that one adult per pack complete BALOO training.
Webelos Leader Outdoor Training (WLOT) is designed specifically for Webelos den leaders and their assistants. Webelos Leader Outdoor Training teaches outdoor skills through demonstration and hands-on practice. It also prepares the leader to conduct Webelos overnight camping with the boys and parents of the den. In addition to covering basic camping skills, this training features planning campouts and finding resources.
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (OLST) is a Boy Scout leader training that is required for Scoutmasters and Assistants to complete their basic training. It is a fun-filled program of hands-on skills training in the outdoors, designed to help you master basic camp skills required for Tenderfoot to First Class. Instructors will help you learn how to set up camp, cook, work with woods tools and about ropes, first aid and other basic outdoor skills. It will increase your comfort level and give you confidence as a trained, skilled leader.
